Zendesk Acquires Forethought for Over $200M to Advance AI Agents in Customer Service

March 11, 2026 — Zendesk announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Forethought, an AI-powered customer service startup specializing in agentic AI agents, in a deal reportedly worth more than $200 million, its largest AI acquisition and seventh in the past 2.5 years. The acquisition aims to accelerate Zendesk’s Resolution Platform with self-improving AI agents capable of handling over 80% of customer interactions autonomously.

The transaction, expected to close by the end of March pending regulatory approvals, was detailed in Zendesk’s official announcement. No official deal value was disclosed by Zendesk or Forethought, but MarTech reported the figure exceeding $200 million.

Strategic Integration and Technology Boost

Zendesk CEO Tom Eggemeier stated:

“The era of simply managing conversations is over. The future of customer experience requires agentic capabilities built for definitive resolution. Forethought’s advanced capabilities perfectly align with our vision for agentic service. Together, we will be scaling self-improving AI that learns from every interaction. But technology is just the means. Resolution is our identity, and loyalty is the outcome. This proposed acquisition will ensure our customers have the absolute best tools to drive measurable growth in the AI era.”

Forethought, founded over seven years ago and a 2018 TechCrunch Battlefield winner, has raised $115 million and supports over 1 billion monthly interactions for customers including Upwork, Grammarly, and Datadog, according to TechCrunch.

The integration will enhance Zendesk’s AI with Forethought’s self-improving agents, voice automation, and workflow execution for complex tasks. Zendesk anticipates AI handling more than half of voice and chat interactions this year, as noted by Eggemeier in MarTech coverage. This positions Zendesk to lead in agentic AI, where systems reason, retrieve knowledge, and resolve issues with minimal human input.

Forethought CEO Sami Ghoche commented:

“Forethought was founded on the belief that AI will transform customer experience for every business. Joining Zendesk is the fastest way to accelerate that mission. With Zendesk’s platform, resources, and global reach, we will bring our technology to many more organizations around the world.”
